Susana Martinez Vidal: Frida the Great Visonary

Tuesday, April 11, 6-7pm

Join best-selling author, Susana Martinez Vidal, for a captivating lecture about Frida Kahlo's expression of identity through her deeply personal art and fashion. Vidal's talk will focus on the ways Kahlo balances femininity and feminism, turned her flaws into beauty, and created a personal style that established herself as a feminist icon who continues to influence art and fashion to this day. In addition, Vidal will share some of her experiences as Director of Elle Spain and her insights into the fashion world today. The talk will conclude with a Q&A and a book signing for her celebrated publication, Frida Kahlo: Fashion as the Art of Being.

Spaniard Susana Martinez Vidal, based in Mexico City and Madrid, is a fashion and lifestyle journalist with more than twenty-five years of experience. She was director of Elle Spain for 18 years and the founder and director of Ragazza magazine. Frida Kahlo inspired the first fashion editorial she produced as director of Elle Spain, and since then she has passionately followed Kahlo’s influence in fashion, music, and culture. After seeing the first-ever exhibition of Frida’s clothing at La Casa Azul in 2012, Vidal was inspired to write her first book: Frida Kahlo: Fashion as the Art of Being, recently published by Assouline. The book has been named one of the 2016’s best new large-format books by the New York Times and by Vanity Fair UK and has been featured in important media in over 20 countries worldwide.
